Some good news...

Well.. DJ already knows this.. but I wanted to tell a few others from HB about it, and I realllllly can't be bothered explaining it over and over again.. so I can just send them here [img]wink.gif[/img]

So...

Mid-way through November, I entered my Media piece into a thing called the Season of Excellence, 'Top Designs'. There are three other Categories; Top Screen (Film), Top Acts and Top Class (Acting - Drama and Theartre Studies) and Top Arts (Sculpture, Painting etc)
Thousands of students completing their VCE enter their works into this "competition".

The subject of my photographs was Dissociative Identity Disorder (Multiple Personalities). I created ten digitally manipulated images which displayed ten different syptoms a person with DID may suffer from.

On the 19th of November I found out that I had got shortlisted for the exhibiton (basically going on to the final round). I was then told that I would find out mid January whether I made it into the exhibition.
Now, I was excited about this, but I didn't realise it was such a big deal. I went to an exhibition at my school of all Media, Studio Art and Graphics students work (I had all three of those classes, so I had a sheetload of work in the exhibition [img]tongue.gif[/img] ), and so many teachers were coming up and congratulating me. Half of them I didn't really know either. So apparently getting shotlisted was pretty good.

I went to my interviews for TAFE on the 21st of November, and I was of course showing them all the photographs and making mention of the fact I had been shortlisted.

Well, yesterday I recieved my results for my VCE (Year 12), and I was pleasantly surprised by my score.. so I was having a pretty good day.

THEN.... *bum bum bummmmm*

The phone rang, I answered, and it was a lady calling from Top Designs. She asked how my results were and all that jazz, then she got down the business, and told me why she was calling.
First she asked if I still had all of the images on my computer. Yes, of course I do.
Then she goes on to say that I will need to burn them all to disk and send them to her because she needs to put them into the catalogue.
I paused and had the BIGGEST smile on my face, cause I knew that to get into the catalogue meant I had gotten into the exhibition. I didn't know what to say.. then she goes "obviously that means you have made it into the Top Design Exhibition, congratulations".. I was sooo excited!

This means that my work gets displayed at the Victoria Museum... or 'Museum Victoria'. I think I told a few people (DJ and Hayles) that my work would be displayed at the National Gallery of Victoria.. but I think that is for Top Arts, and that Top Design is at Victoria Museum.

REGARDLESS of where it is exhibited....

WOOOHOOOO!!!!!

You have no idea how great this is.. I am so happy!

Oh.. the other thing the lady said, was that because I wasn't supposed to find out the result until mid January, that I should keep this all secret. I guess posting it on the net is a pretty farked up way of keeping it secret... but oh well.. I'm way to excited not to tell you all [img]tongue.gif[/img]

I coudln't remember when the exhibition was or when it was held... but this is from the VCAA website:

"The Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) presents exhibitions, performances and screenings of works created by VCE students in design, technology, multimedia and the cinematic, visual and performing arts.

Between March and July, the Season presents arts events and performances and screenings for the public, professional development for teachers and educational resources for students.

Season events take place in Melbourne?s most prestigious cultural venues: The National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne Museum, the Australian Centre for the Moving Image and Hamer Hall at the Arts Centre.

I take it mine will be at Melbourne Museum...

We were going to submit our music thing to top acts.. but I guess we're all lazy fucks and didn't get aroudn to it. damn.
